The Oak Ridge National Laboratory is a multiprogram science and technology laboratory managed for the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) by UT-Battelle. Research areas include increasing energy, the environment and national security. Its in-house energy programmes are the largest and most broadly based among the DoE national laboratories, spanning basic and applied research, technology development and technical assistance. Areas covered include fuel cell R & D. Past projects include developing Carbon Composite Bipolar Plates for PEM Fuel Cells. Furthermore, the laboratory is involved in various DoE programms, including the FreedomCAR project.
